Overwhelmed And Stressed, Americans Turn To Expert Advisors

Tuesday, June 06, 2000

Stress, Fast-Paced Lives Create Large Market Demand for Expert Advice The study released today makes clear that Americans are feeling the stress and pressures of juggling careers and families, and just keeping up with the pace of the modern world.
A majority of those surveyed (59%) feel they have more stress and responsibilities than their parents did.
Large percentages of Americans associate stress with managing finances (73%), accomplishing personal goals (69%) and finding quality time to spend with their families (64%). .
Is it any surprise that 59% of the people surveyed were willing to pay for personal advice?"
Despite much greater participation of males in family responsibilities, women continue to substantially outnumber men in feeling stressed. They are more likely than men to indicate that they do not have enough time to manage their various responsibilities (52% versus 43% respectively), and they outnumber men in believing they have more responsibilities than their parents had (63% versus 54%).
Indeed, many of these responsibilities are much more likely to represent a high source of stress for women than for men, such as the well being of older relatives (26% versus 18%).
A sizeable number of women (70%) and a somewhat lower majority of men (61%) report being stressed from not having enough quality time to spend with children or family.
